Join us for a slow, creative afternoon on the farm — learning the art of handmade papermaking using plant materials grown and gathered from the landscape around us.
This is more than a workshop.
It’s an opportunity to step away from the pace of everyday life and spend time working with your hands — transforming natural materials into something lasting, textured, and completely your own.
Led by artist Kate Aitchison, this hands-on workshop explores how to create paper using agricultural plant materials — including lavender grown here on the farm, along with locally gathered native and invasive plants.
We’ll incorporate lavender directly into the papermaking process, bringing the scent, texture, and beauty of the season into your work.
Each sheet you create will be shaped by the materials of this place — reflecting the colors, textures, and ecology of the Four Corners region.
During the workshop, you will:
– Learn the fundamentals of handmade papermaking
– Pull your own sheets of paper by hand
– Work with plant fibers sourced from the surrounding landscape
– Create seeded paper with local wildflower seeds
– Experiment with “pulp painting” to design layered, one-of-a-kind pieces
– Incorporate lavender from the farm into your paper
You’ll leave with a collection of unique, handmade papers — perfect for journaling, letter writing, or creating meaningful, handmade cards.
This workshop is intentionally small and held here on the farm — allowing for a more personal, immersive experience.
It’s a chance to:
– Slow down and spend time creating with your hands
– Connect more deeply with the land and materials around you
– Learn directly from a working artist
– Experience the farm in a meaningful, creative way
With only 12 participants, the afternoon will feel relaxed, spacious, and deeply engaging.
Date: May 23
Time: 12:00–3:00pm
Location: Mesa Verde Lavender Farm
Price: $55 per person
Capacity: Limited to 12 participants
Spots are limited and expected to fill.
If this speaks to you, we’d love to have you join us for this special afternoon on the farm.
